Chatham, Ontario

We took a day-trip down into Canada to delve more deeply into our family history and to meander down memory lane. My mother's parents originally hail from the 51st state to the north. We went to Grandma Gertie's childhood home in Chatham, Ontario. Other stops were the library where Grandma Gertie's sister was a librarian, her family's parish church, the converted candy store I had gone to as a child when visiting my great-grandmother, an authentically-Canadian bowling alley, and a visit to my great aunt in Windsor. It was nice to be able to share this family history and these memories with my sister Mary Theresa and brother Joseph.

Originally, Grandma Gertie and my Uncle Brian were going to join us for this trip. Unfortunately, health complications inhibited their participation. We missed them and carried them with us in our hearts as we gathered Kinder Eggs and Coffee Crisps!

Christmas in Michigan

We had a wonderful Christmas in Michigan. There was no snow, but it was quite nippy. Lots of bonding time with cousins, uncles and aunts. Some memorable moments include family games, Christmas Mass at the altar, family wally-ball, grandma and grandpa breakfast date with Madge and Pita, visiting Grandma Gertie.

Happy 2011!

Back to the blogging again...

We're finally home after two weeks on the road. We had a fun and eventful Christmas and New Year. Road trips to Michigan, Canada, Chicago, and St. Louis. Wonderful family time with our parents and families.

We ushered in 2011 asleep. Hopefully it's not an auger for the new year! Happy 2011.

The upcoming posts will focus on each of our four stops.
